Classes start in three short days so I thought I’d run through my schedule for the semester. This is a purely informational post with no entertainment value whatsoever (so.. pretty much like all the others!) I’m starting off at full speed, so it’s a busy schedule with four classes and three labs to go along with them.
Calculus I – I don’t expect too much trouble from this one. Calculus is one of the few classes at Guilford in which I got an A. My advisor told me I didn’t need to take any math because I have already taken three semesters of calculus. Unfortunately I took those classes 15 years ago, so I thought it was in my best interest to take them again. Remember I’m not trying just to get by this time around – I’m looking to excel. I’ll put in the time needed but I don’t expect the needs to be too great here.
Principles of Biology I – I don’t expect this freshman biology class to be too bad. I think it will go about like chemistry courses I took last year. Go to class, read the book, do plenty of practice, get a decent grade. Even with a three hour lab every week I think it will be fine as long as I put the time in.
Organic Chemistry I – This is where the schedule starts getting tough. This is the first class on the schedule that makes me think that I can get an A just by showing up and reading the book. Anyone who has taken organic chemistry will very quickly tell you that it’s a pain in the ass. Hopefully my interest in the subject matter will give me a boost without getting too frustrated.
University Physics I – Another rough one. My advisor told me not to get discouraged because no one gets an A in this class. That’s tough to hear before even walking through the door! Obviously I know it won’t be easy but I think being math oriented will help. From what I hear the lab is fairly easy so I can concentrate on the lectures.
As things stand now it looks like I can put calculus and biology on the back burner and focus on physics and organic chemistry. I just can’t focus on the hard ones so much that I lose track of the easier ones. All of this is based on assumption at this point, and those assumptions may be terribly wrong as well. I really won’t know anything until Tuesday. So for the next three days I’ll just go back and forth between stressing out about my schedule and thinking it’s not so bad really.
